Day 5 - Middlegate Station (Nevada)

Higway 50, referred by Life magazine in 1986  as the “Loneliest Highway in America”…well, looks, feels, and seems to be lonely. Although there are still cars every few minutes. I guess the “loneliest” title brought travellers (cyclists -obviously- and motorists) to the road, making it the loneliest highway intermittently. Once left Fallon (and accidentally doing a 5km detour because some sort of US army base blocked the road that looked good on the map…) I started really feel the (yes, the heat, always the heat, after 10am I only drink warm water these days) scenery. I see mountain ranges, valleys, climbing for what seems to be an hour (and it occasionally may be, the ascents are long and straight) then I fly down for a few minutes of ‘awww’ and ‘yeah’. So, there are mountains, valleys, sand, asphalt, and occasional archaeological or historical site (some of them worth the extra hike, perhaps next time, with a motorized vehicle). Almost forgot to mention the enormous clouds (see image below, titled: ‘The hope’). By the way: for everyone in Canada: Happy Canada Day:)! (I promise my second one as a Canadian will be spent up North…)

Az 50-es főút, vagy ahogy a Life magazin 1986-ban leírta, a “legmagányosabb főút Amerikában”, nos, tényleg magányos. Ugyanakkor valószínűleg a titulus érdekessége miatt, biciklisek (eddig mondjuk csak én) és motorizált járművek egyaránt gyakoriak erre. Talán helyesebb lenne azt mondani, hogy “gyakran a legmagányosabb főút”. Miután elhagytam Fallont, a sivatag igazán megmutatta magát, a táj kitárulkozó ott és megmutatta a valódi arcát. A hőségről megint nem érdemes beszélni, reggel 10 után csak melegvizet tudok inni (mivel mindet magammal kell vinnem). Most az út úgy néz ki, hogy felmegyek egy hegyre vagy dombra ami akar eltarthat egy óráig is, majd nagy “juhééék” és “éljenek” között le ereszkedem percek alatt. Összefoglalva itt vannak hegyek van homok, van út, és az alsó képen láthatóan még felhő is előfordul (a kép címe: “A remény”).
